Legal Essentials: Shifting Focus to Data Protection, Cybersecurity and Vendor Management
For an introduction to these areas, visit Taylor's previous video, an Introduction to Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Third Party Vendor Management.
In recent years, security risks and data breaches have increased and businesses are working to be better equipped to respond to emergency cyber attack and breach situations.
The first big step should be a shift in a business's focus. Rather than focusing all resources to prevent an attack, use those resources to prepare for an attack in order to minimize potential damages. There should also be a shift in focus in terms of thinking of cybersecurity and data privacy as simply an IT issue and start thinking of them as a business issue.
Ingrain plans and procedures into the business's governance. In addressing day-to-day risks there should be four key points:
- Asses
- Protect
- Sustain
- Respond
In the following video, Foster Swift business attorney Taylor Gast gives his take on what businesses can do to be more aware of potential cyber and data attacks. Stay tuned for future videos tackling these subjects. This video provides general information and IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE.
