SOUTHFIELD, Mich. —Foster Swift Collins & Smith attorney, Dirk H. Beckwith, received the Transportation Lawyers Association’s (TLA) 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual conference in San Diego, California.
Established in 1937, the Transportation Lawyers Association is an independent bar association, comprised of in-house, government and private practice attorneys. Its members assist providers and commercial users of domestic and international logistics and transportation services, in all modes.
This award is the TLA’s highest honor and is presented to a member who has dedicated so much of their time, energy, expertise and enthusiasm to the organization over the course of a long career.
As a past president of the TLA, Dirk has dedicated 40-plus years of law practice in the field of transportation law. He has a wealth of experience representing transportation companies, motor carriers and railroads and has litigated cases involving the interpretation of transportation contracts, the application of tariffs and shipments moved pursuant to bills of lading.
He also vigorously defends trucking companies in cargo claim litigation and against claims for personal injury and was involved in several landmark decisions for the trucking and railroad industries.
