Jesse Dyer Appointed by Florida’s Governor to the State Retirement Commission

Governor Ron DeSantis recently announced the appointment of Shutts & Bowen LLP Tallahassee partner Jesse C. Dyer to the State Retirement Commission.

The State Retirement Commission is responsible for reviewing final decisions on applications for disability retirement and special risk membership, and reexamining retired members receiving benefits and special risk members in the Florida Retirement System. The Commission has authority to adopt rules to implement the provisions of law conferring its duties. Jesse will work in tandem with his fellow Commissioners to ensure the consistent and fair application of retirement system laws, while upholding the integrity of the benefits process for Florida’s public servants.

"I’m honored to have been appointed by Governor DeSantis to serve on the State Retirement Commission,” said Jesse. “It’s a privilege to contribute to the oversight of a system that supports so many dedicated public employees."

Jesse is a partner in the firm’s Tallahassee office, where he is a member of the Appellate Practice Group. Practicing in both state and federal courts, Jesse has experience handling complex cases and legal issues, with an emphasis on insurance disputes representing insurers. He has varied experience ranging from defending tort cases to representing clients in civil governmental investigations. Jesse has successfully handled numerous appeals and also has significant litigation and courtroom experience, having handled all stages of the litigation process including dispositive motion hearings, trials and post-trial motion practice.
