    Charles J. “Chad” Muller - November 15, 1942 – June 10, 2025

Our colleague and friend, Charles J. “Chad” Muller, passed away on June 10, 2025. Chad joined Chamberlain Hrdlicka in 2011 at the age of 68—an age when many begin winding down their careers. But Chad was never one to follow convention. With unwavering energy and a deep passion for the law, he launched our San Antonio office and began a new chapter that would leave a lasting legacy on our firm.

A brilliant and fearless tax litigator, Chad’s career spanned more than five decades. He was known for his sharp intellect, relentless work ethic, magnetic charm and humor, and a generosity of spirit that left an incredible mark on all who knew him. In the courtroom, Chad was a formidable advocate who was undaunted by challenge and deeply committed to fighting against injustice. Among colleagues and peers, he was often regarded as “the tax lawyer’s tax lawyer.”

Chad leaves behind a legacy that transcends case law or accolades. It lives on through the attorneys who had the privilege of working beside him, who strive to uphold his values of excellence, integrity, and compassion. Under Chad’s leadership, our San Antonio office grew from a three-person team into a thriving group of more than 20 attorneys and staff. He had a unique ability to bring people together, to make them feel part of something meaningful, and a spirit that remains deeply embedded in our culture today.

In recognition of his enduring impact, the primary conference room in our San Antonio office proudly bears his name. The plaque on the wall does more than honor Chad’s memory—it serves as a daily reminder of the principles he lived by: that excellence is an everyday practice, that kindness is strength, and that justice, when pursued with heart, leaves a legacy that lasts far beyond a lifetime.
