Justice Eva Guzman opinion article on "Uvalde report should be a call to action"
In a recent opinion article, Eva Guzman, former Texas Supreme Court Justice and Chamberlain Hrdlicka shareholder, discusses the recently released report by the Texas House Committee, appointed to investigate the Robb Elementary School shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, 2022. Guzman was appointed to the Committee by Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan in June 2022.
In addition to discussing the report’s findings, Guzman calls us to action.
“There are many possibilities and policy choices,” said Guzman. “The truth behind the tragedy is calling us to action, pushing us to come together to examine the possibilities and to produce workable solutions. Reason, not emotion, must light our path. Understanding, not blame, must drive our deliberations. And, logic, not politics, must guide our work.”
With a wealth of expertise, both as a litigator and as a judge, Justice Guzman focuses on litigating cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts and resolving disputes at the administrative level, including internal investigations, arbitration and mediation.
An elected member of the prestigious American Law Institute, Guzman has collaborated with other legal professionals on various studies and projects and authored articles for a number of legal publications.
