Leo Unzeitig Recognized by Texas Lawyer as a 2023 Rising Star
Leo Unzeitig, tax shareholder at Chamberlain Hrdlicka’s San Antonio firm, has been recognized among the recipients of Texas Lawyer’s 2023 Professional Excellence Awards in the Rising Star category. Texas Lawyer’s Professional Excellence Awards recognize lawyers for extraordinary professional achievements and their significant impacts in the legal community in Texas. In particular, the Rising Award recognizes Texas' most promising lawyers under the age of 40.
Unzeitig is a member of the Tax Controversy and Litigation Section in San Antonio, where he focuses on a wide range of federal tax controversy and litigation matters at all stages before the Internal Revenue Service and federal courts. He has successfully represented clients in significant cases involving worker classification issues, method of accounting issues, international tax issues, captive insurance, and general collection matters.
Prior to joining Chamberlain Hrdlicka, he served as a judicial clerk to Judge Juan F. Vasquez at the U.S. Tax Court in Washington, D.C. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accounting from Trinity University. He earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from St. Mary’s University School of Law and the Master of Laws degree in taxation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Unzeitig is a Fellow of the San Antonio Bar Foundation, and an active member of the Federal Bar Association, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (where he sits on the Federal Tax Policy Committee), San Antonio CPA Society, American Bar Association - Tax Section, San Antonio Bar Association, and William S. Sessions American Inn of Court. He has been named among Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch (2022-2024), Texas Rising Star by Super Lawyers (2022-2023 and San Antonio’s Best Lawyers - Tax Litigation by Scene in S.A. He enjoys counseling taxpayers through the Tax Court Pro Bono Program sponsored by the State Bar of Texas Tax Section.
