Article in Law360 discusses Tom Cullinan joining Chamberlain Hrdlicka in Atlanta
On April 5, 2023, Law360 published an article profiling Chamberlain Hrdlicka Atlanta office’s newest member, Tom Cullinan, equity shareholder in the Tax Controversy & Litigation Group. Cullinan joins the firm after a five-year stint at the Internal Revenue Service as Commissioner Charles Rettig's counselor and then acting chief of staff. Cullinan told Law360 the firm was a good fit for his range of litigation experience because it can handle all types of tax controversy work, from state to federal and civil to criminal.
It’s the "premier tax controversy firm in the Southeast," said Cullinan. "And in terms of the types of clients that it represents, it really does cover the waterfront. It’s got a long history of representing partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, trusts, estates. But at the same time, it's got the depth and bench strength for larger corporate matters, and there are really very few firms in the country that can really do all of that.”
Larry Campagna, managing shareholder at the firm, said in a news release that "for the last 20 years, I have wished that Tom would come to work with us, and now my wish is coming true. “He brings with him extensive knowledge and understanding of tax controversy and litigation,” said Campagna. "During his time at the IRS, he developed policies, strategies and initiatives critical to tax administration that will position him and the firm well in interacting with our clients.”
Cullinan’s controversy expertise encompasses low-income taxpayers, trusts and estates, and high-net-worth individuals. He has also represented large corporations, both at IRS-level proceedings and in the courts.
Juan F. Vasquez Jr., chair of the firm's tax controversy section, said in the news release that Cullinan's addition to the group "ensures we will continue to provide top-quality service to our clients."
"We are excited to welcome Tom into the Chamberlain family and to learn from his expertise and continue to grow our practice," said Vasquez.
