Attorney J. Scot Kirkpatrick, head of the Trust and Estates Practice Group of Chamberlain Hrdlicka’s Atlanta office, will speak at the October meeting of the Technology Association of Georgia’s (TAG) Technology Finance Society. The meeting, whose topic is “Estate Planning in an Environment of Uncertainty: What’s Really Important to Consider,” will be on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 a.m. at the Centergy One Building, 75 Fifth St. NW, in the Hodges Room (No. 335).
Mr. Kirkpatrick handles matters such as wills; planning for incapacity, including powers of attorney and health care declarations; gifting techniques and strategies; life insurance planning; trust planning; generation-skipping planning; charitable giving and charitable entities. His expertise includes succession planning for business owners, including buy-sell agreements; assisting in the family limited partnerships, limited liability companies and closely held businesses; marital property agreements; estate administration and probate; assisting in the preparation and filing of estate, inheritance and gift and generation-skipping tax returns; representation in estate and gift tax audits; and litigation relating to all aspects of trust and estate disputes.
The meeting features a discussion of both non-tax and tax considerations when planning for the future and the impact the value of a company’s assets will have on the owner. Technology companies often have assets with high potential for appreciation. Thinking through the long-term goals for these assets early in the process can be very beneficial.
Accountant and financial planner Jim Underwood, shareholder and managing partner at Tarpley & Underwood P.C., will also speak at the meeting.
