“Tax Community Pushes to Keep DOJ Tax Division Intact,” Tax Notes

On April 3, 2025, Tax Notes published an article discussing a letter written by 60 attorneys addressed to Deputy Attorney General Todd W. Blanche, proposing against the dismantling of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, and highlighted Managing Shareholder Larry Campagna’s insights. Campagna, Chuck Rettig, former Commissioner of the IRS, and Tom Cullinan, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner, were all credited as authors of the original letter.

Campagna told Tax Notes that “centralized administration and review of tax litigation are essential to ensuring that tax laws are administered uniformly throughout the nation.”

“General enforcement will suffer, and cheating on taxes will increase without the deterrent effect of the Tax Division’s concentration on enforcement,” Campagna said.
