In an article published by Tax Notes International on March 31, 2025, Former IRS Commissioner and Shareholder Chuck Rettig weighed in on a Justice Department memo suggesting sending Tax Division lawyers to U.S. attorney’s offices.
Rettig discussed the importance of having a political appointee for the Tax Division to assist in this decision-making process.
“What the country really needs is an experienced, Senate-confirmed assistant attorney general of the Tax Division to assist the deputy attorney general in making these decisions,” stated Rettig.
