Shutts & Bowen LLP Miami partner Victoria Méndez recently moderated the legal panel titled “Legal & Ethical Considerations When Exercising Quasi-Judicial Authority: What Local Elected Officials Should Know” at the Miami-Dade County League of Cities Best Practices Seminar.
The panelists, including Mayor Rachel Streitfeld of North Bay Village and Mayor Joseph Corradino of Pinecrest, explored the responsibilities and legal framework guiding elected officials in a quasi-judicial capacity. Panelists explained key terms, identified behaviors that may create voting conflicts, reviewed evidentiary standards and penalties, and provided clarity on the safeguards and procedural requirements that ensure fairness, transparency, and due process.
The Miami-Dade County League of Cities was established in 1953 for the purpose of uniting the common interests of the municipalities throughout Miami-Dade County. For more information, click here.
