Our 2025 Summer Associate Program brought 11 law students from nine law schools to the firm for an intellectually challenging and professionally gratifying experience. The students took part in firm-sponsored social events and community service projects throughout the summer in addition to attending client meetings, depositions, court hearings and other proceedings. Nearing the end of the program, the students agreed to share a few highlights from their summer at Shutts.
Logan Wallen joined Shutts’ Tampa office for the summer from Stetson University College of Law. Logan is a symposium moderator of the Business Law Review and a member of Moot Court and the Investment & Finance Law Association. He has previously interned for the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
Logan shares his thoughts on his summer experience at Shutts.
Why did you choose to spend your 2025 Summer with Shutts?
I chose to spend the summer with Shutts because I wanted to gain exposure to the large variety of legal services that a reputable full-service law firm like Shutts provides. The Shutts attorneys really stood out during the interview process as dedicated professionals who were eager to train up and coming attorneys. That attribute and the visible culture of the firm aligned perfectly with what I was looking for.
If you could go back to the first day of the summer program and give yourself a piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and ask for feedback directly. Everyone is busy so taking the initiative is important to developing your own skillset.
What advice would you give to someone about to start the OCI process?
Take time to think about what is important to you in a potential future employer. Ultimately you are going to be spending a large percent of your time there. So, it is important to find a place where you are doing work that you enjoy with people that you enjoy being around.
