Kevin Benish to Present on Pro Bono Panel at 2024 Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair

08.05.2024

New York—Kevin Benish, Of Counsel at Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, will speak on a panel at the 2024 Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair, the largest LGBTQ+ legal conference in the country. The panel, moderated by Julie Rooney, deputy general counsel & head of U.S. privacy at OpenX, will discuss how attorneys can build their pro bono practice early in their careers, and will also feature Melissa Gohlke, associate at Cooley LLP; Jay Larry, corporate counsel and assistant secretary at Paramount Global; and Emily Walpole, associate at Wade Clark Mulcahy LLP. The panel will take place on Thursday, August 8 at 10:30 am ET.

Kevin, who was promoted to Of Counsel just last month, has extensive experience working on matters involving transnational litigation, civil procedure, antitrust, international arbitration, and constitutional law. Kevin maintains an active and diverse pro bono practice, which has included fighting for LGBTQIA+ rights in rural New York, representing asylum seekers, and representing civil procedure scholars as amici curiae. He was an integral member of the HSG team that secured the first injunction against the second iteration of former President Trump’s Muslim Ban on behalf of a Syrian asylee in Wisconsin who sought derivative-asylum status for his wife and young child. He also serves as co-chair of HSG’s LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group.

In addition to practicing law, Kevin serves as an adjunct professor at the New York University School of Law, where he has taught the school’s International Litigation and Arbitration course and Civil Procedure for LLMs. He writes about issues such as transnational litigation, jurisdiction, procedure, sovereign immunity, and data privacy, and has been invited to speak on these topics throughout the United States and abroad.

Kevin also spoke on a panel at last year’s Lavendar Law conference, and this is HSG’s 7th year sponsoring the conference.
